Taxi between Jerusalem and Ben Gurion Airport

There is a fast train from Jerusalem to the airport — about 25 minutes, and on a weekday with one carry-on it is hard to beat. It also stops for Shabbat, does not reach your hotel, and cannot help a family of four with suitcases at four in the morning. That gap is what we fill.

The train that made this route easy

Jerusalem has a direct rail link to the airport, and it is good: roughly 25 minutes from Yitzhak Navon to the airport station, with no traffic and no arguing about the price. On a weekday, alone, with one carry-on, we would take it too. A car earns its place at the edges of that — and on this route the edges are most of the traffic. The station is not where people live or stay. The train stops for Shabbat. Suitcases, children and a 6am check-in all work against it.

Flights do not stop for Shabbat

Public transport in Israel stops for Shabbat: from Friday afternoon until Saturday night there are no trains and no buses. Flights do not. A Saturday departure, a Saturday-night arrival, or a Friday afternoon run to the airport are all trips a train cannot make — and they are a large part of what we do on this corridor. The same applies late at night, after the last service. Allow three hours at Terminal 3 for an international departure; from Jerusalem that means leaving roughly four hours before the flight, and more on a Sunday or a Friday.

Hotels, groups and the Old City

Most Jerusalem hotels are nowhere near Yitzhak Navon station — the Old City, Mamilla, the German Colony, Mount Scopus and Ein Kerem all mean a second leg with luggage. A car collects from the door and drops at the terminal door. Groups are the other half of it: four people with four suitcases pay for four train tickets and still carry everything themselves, where one vehicle takes all of it. If you have an early departure, tell us the flight time rather than the pickup time and the driver will work backwards from it.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the drive from Jerusalem to the airport take?

Usually 45 to 60 minutes outside rush hour on Route 1, and longer on a Sunday morning or on a Friday before Shabbat. Give us your flight time and we will set the pickup backwards from it.

Is the train not faster?

Often, yes — about 25 minutes from Jerusalem Yitzhak Navon, and we will say so. It stops for Shabbat, it does not come to your hotel, and it is awkward with more than one suitcase. That is where a car earns its place.

How early should I leave for an international flight?

Allow three hours at Terminal 3 before an international departure. From Jerusalem that means leaving roughly four hours before the flight, and more on a Sunday or a Friday.
