Netanya guide — the cliffs, the beaches and the centre

Netanya is built on a cliff above the sea, which is the single most useful fact about getting around it: the town and the beach are on different levels, and the ways between them are few. This guide explains the layout, the beaches worth naming, and why the address matters more here than in most cities.

The layout: a town above, a beach below

The cliff runs along the whole seafront. Above it are the streets of the town, the central square and the hotels; below it are the beaches, reached by a limited number of access points — some on foot only. That geography is why a taxi in Netanya is really about the last two hundred metres, not the drive.

The promenade

The cliff-top promenade is the place people walk in the evening, looking down at the water. It is long, and its two ends are not close to each other — so "the promenade" is a starting point, not a pickup point.

The beaches

Netanya's beaches sit in separate bays along the cliff, each with its own access and its own character: the central ones are the busiest, and the ones further out are quieter. Naming the beach is the only way a car can meet you at the right descent.

The centre and Ir Yamim

The city centre around the central square holds the shops, the market and most of the everyday life; Ir Yamim in the south is a newer residential and commercial quarter with its own shopping and its own access roads. They are different addresses, twenty minutes apart on a bad day.

Getting to Netanya, and when the car is worth it

Netanya has a train station on the coastal line, which makes the Tel Aviv–Netanya trip straightforward in normal hours. The gap appears at the ends: the station is not on the seafront, and the walk from it to a cliff-top hotel with luggage is longer than it looks.

A direct car ride makes sense for the airport, for late arrivals, for Shabbat, and for anyone whose destination is a specific hotel or a residential street away from the centre. The drive from Tel Aviv is roughly 30 to 45 minutes along the coastal highway. Tel Aviv to Netanya rides

Netanya and Ben Gurion Airport

The airport is about 45 to 60 minutes away depending on traffic, so it is worth leaving a real buffer for an early flight. Send the flight number for arrivals and agree the pickup from the hotel entrance or the street above the beach for departures. Ben Gurion arrivals · Private transfers · Price list
