Lod and Ramla guide — the two cities beside the airport
Ben Gurion Airport sits between Lod and Ramla, and both are far older than the airport that made them familiar. Lod holds one of the finest Roman mosaics found in the region; Ramla, founded in the eighth century, has a Mamluk tower and an underground reservoir. Both are a short drive from the terminals — which makes them the least obvious and most useful airport-adjacent stops.

What is actually there
Lod: the mosaic and the old city
The Lod mosaic — a large Roman-era floor mosaic discovered in the city — is the reason many visitors come at all, and it is displayed in a dedicated archaeological centre in Lod. Around it, the old city is a dense, working neighbourhood with a market and streets that turn quickly; a car cannot always reach the door, so the last part is often on foot.
Ramla: tower, reservoir and market
Ramla was founded in the eighth century and its White Tower is the landmark visible from a distance. Underground, the Pool of Arches is a vaulted water reservoir that can be walked through. The city market is one of the busiest in the area, and the streets around it are narrow on market days.
Why these two cities matter for a flight
Both sit within a few minutes of the terminals. That makes them the practical answer to a specific problem: an early departure, a late landing, or a stay with family where the airport is closer than Tel Aviv and the bus schedule does not match the flight.
The routing detail worth knowing is that the airport is not one destination but several: terminal 3, terminal 1, the pick-up areas and the long-stay car parks are different points. Say which one you mean. For arrivals, the flight number lets the pickup follow the actual landing time. Ben Gurion arrivals pickup · Airport taxi overview · Price list
